How to apply for the PM Surya Ghar subsidy, step by step

Seven stages from registration to money in your bank account, with what to check at each one.

Short answerRegister on pmsuryaghar.gov.in with your Telangana DISCOM and consumer number, apply for rooftop solar, get feasibility approval, have a registered vendor install DCR panels, apply for the net meter, and once the DISCOM commissions the plant, submit your bank details. The subsidy arrives by direct transfer, usually within about 30 days.

Before you start

Check three things on your electricity bill: the name (it should match your bank account), the consumer number, and the sanctioned load. If you plan 3 kW of solar and your sanctioned load is 2 kW, ask the DISCOM to enhance the load first, or the application can stall.

Stage 1: Register on the national portal

Choose Telangana, then your DISCOM: TGSPDCL for Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Medchal, Mahabubnagar, Nalgonda and the south; TGNPDCL for Warangal, Karimnagar, Khammam, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Adilabad, Nizamabad and the north. Enter your consumer number, mobile and email.

Stage 2: Submit the rooftop application

Log in with your consumer number and mobile, fill in the form and select a registered vendor. Your vendor’s name must appear in the portal list for your DISCOM.

Stage 3: Feasibility approval

The DISCOM checks the transformer capacity in your area. Approval usually takes one to three weeks. Do not let anyone install panels before this approval comes through.

Stage 4: Installation

Your vendor installs the system with DCR panels and an approved inverter. Ask for the panel serial numbers, inverter make and a copy of the DCR certificate: they are needed later.

Stage 5: Net meter application

Plant details, photos and documents are uploaded. The DISCOM inspects, tests the system and installs a bi-directional net meter.

Stage 6: Commissioning

After inspection, a commissioning certificate is generated on the portal. This is the trigger for the subsidy.

Stage 7: Bank details and subsidy release

Submit your bank account and a cancelled cheque on the portal. The central subsidy is credited by direct benefit transfer, generally within about 30 days.

Tip from our office: Keep one folder (paper or phone) with the bill, Aadhaar, PAN, cancelled cheque, ownership proof, DCR certificate, invoice and roof photos. Nearly every delay we see comes from a missing or mismatched document.

What we do for you

As a registered vendor, we register you, file the application, follow up on feasibility, install, apply for the net meter, attend the DISCOM inspection and upload commissioning documents. You sign the forms and enter your bank details. Book a free survey to start.

Frequently asked questions

How long does the whole process take?

Typically three to six weeks from registration to commissioning, then about 30 days for the subsidy. DISCOM inspection is the step that varies most.

Can I apply myself and pick any installer?

You can register yourself, but the installer must be a vendor registered on the national portal for your DISCOM, and the panels must be DCR. A good vendor files most stages for you.

What if my application is rejected at feasibility?

This usually happens when the distribution transformer is overloaded or sanctioned load is too low. The DISCOM may approve a smaller capacity, or you can apply for a load enhancement and re-apply.
