Water when the crop needs it, not when the grid allows
Grid supply to farms often comes at odd hours, and diesel costs keep climbing. A solar pump runs from sunrise to sunset, exactly when crops lose the most water, and costs nothing to run.
- No diesel, no fuel theft, no engine overhauls
- VFD/MPPT controller for soft start and steady flow
- Runs from about 8 am to 5 pm on clear days
- Theft-resistant panel mounting with anti-rotation bolts
Submersible
For borewells deeper than 20 feet. Sealed unit, high efficiency, little maintenance.
Surface
For open wells, ponds and canals. Easy to reach for repairs, lower price.
AC or DC
DC motors are more efficient for small heads; AC suits higher HP and existing pumps.
PM KUSUM
Up to 60% combined subsidy where the state scheme is open. We handle the forms.
Pick the right solar pump for your water source
Water depth, source and crop decide the pump. Tap each option to compare.
Submersible pumps for borewells
The whole pump and motor sits under water inside the borewell and pushes water up, which is more efficient for deep water tables common across Telangana.
- For borewells deeper than about 20 ft
- Sealed unit with little maintenance
- Stainless steel pump body resists corrosion
- Dry-run protection in the controller
Surface pumps for open water
Installed on land next to an open well, tank, pond or canal, these pumps draw water through a suction pipe. Easy to reach for servicing and lower in cost.
- Water level within about 7 m of the pump
- High flow for flood and furrow irrigation
- Easy access for repairs
- Portable trolley mounting available
AC or DC: which motor?
DC (BLDC) motors are the most efficient and start well in low light, ideal for smaller pumps. AC motors suit higher HP and let you keep using grid power as backup.
- DC: 10–15% more water from the same panels
- AC: works with grid supply too
- Both use a VFD/MPPT controller
- We recommend after checking yield and head
PM KUSUM subsidy for farmers
Under Component B, central support of 30% plus up to 30% from the state can bring the farmer’s share down to about 40%, part of which a bank can lend. Availability depends on the state’s current sanctions.
- Standalone pumps up to 7.5 HP
- We check the current status for your district
- Documents: Aadhaar, pattadar passbook, bank details
- Without KUSUM, diesel savings still repay the pump
How much diesel will you stop buying?

Assumes a diesel pump burns about 0.27 litres per HP per hour. PM KUSUM sanction depends on state allocation and your category; we check current availability for your mandal.
Solar vs diesel vs grid pump
| Solar pump | Diesel pump | Grid electric pump | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Running cost | Nil | High (₹90+/litre diesel) | Low, but supply hours limited |
| When it runs | Daylight, every day | Whenever fuelled | When the feeder is on |
| Maintenance | Panel cleaning | Oil, filters, overhauls | Starter and motor rewinding |
| Life | 25 yrs panels, 10–15 yrs pump | 8–10 years | 10–15 years |
| Pollution and noise | None | Smoke and noise | None at farm |
Typical pump sizes
Discharge depends on total head (depth plus pipe losses). These are indicative for clear-sky days.
| Pump | Solar array | Good for | Daily water (approx.) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3 HP | 3 kWp | 1–2 acres, shallow borewell | 1–1.4 lakh litres at 30 m head |
| 5 HP | 4.8 kWp | 3–4 acres, paddy or vegetables | 1.6–2.2 lakh litres at 40 m head |
| 7.5 HP | 6.75 kWp | 5–7 acres, deeper borewell | 2.2–3 lakh litres at 50 m head |
| 10 HP | 9 kWp | Large holdings, deep water | 3–4 lakh litres at 70 m head |
Solar pump questions
Which pump do I need: submersible or surface?
Use a submersible pump for borewells and deep water. Use a surface pump for open wells, tanks, ponds and canals where water is within about 7 metres of the pump.
Will a solar pump work on cloudy days?
Yes, at lower output. The VFD controller keeps the motor running smoothly as sunlight changes. On heavily overcast days, expect around 30–50% of normal discharge.
What subsidy is available for solar pumps?
Under PM KUSUM Component B the central government funds 30% and the state can add 30% for standalone pumps up to 7.5 HP, leaving the farmer about 40%, part of which can be a bank loan. Availability in Telangana depends on current state allocations; we check the status for your mandal before you commit.
How long does a solar pump last?
Panels last 25 years. The pump and controller typically last 10–15 years with basic care such as keeping the panels clean and the borewell free of sand.
