Short answerMNRE’s operational guidelines set the PM Surya Ghar implementation period to run until 31 March 2027. If you want the subsidy of up to ₹78,000, plan to have your system installed and commissioned well before then, because DISCOM feasibility and inspection queues get longer as deadlines approach.
Where the date comes from
When the scheme was approved in February 2024, its implementation period was set until 31 March 2027 (the end of financial year 2026–27). The target is one crore homes. Progress reports through 2026 show strong growth but also that installations still trail the target, so the scheme remains open for new applications.
Why applying early matters
- DISCOM workload: feasibility checks and net-meter inspections are done by the same field staff. Queues grow in the final months of any scheme.
- Peak season: February to May is installation season in Telangana. Booking earlier means better crew availability.
- Summer savings: a system commissioned before April starts saving during the highest-bill months.
A realistic timeline if you start now
| Step | Typical time |
|---|---|
| Survey and quote | Within a week |
| Portal registration and application | 1–2 days |
| DISCOM feasibility | 1–3 weeks |
| Installation | 1–2 days |
| Net meter and commissioning | 1–3 weeks |
| Subsidy credit | About 30 days after commissioning |
What if the scheme closes or changes?
Schemes are sometimes extended or replaced, but you should not count on it. Without the subsidy, solar still pays for itself; it just takes longer. Our payback calculator lets you set the subsidy to zero and see the difference.

Frequently asked questions
Will the subsidy stop on 31 March 2027?
The scheme’s approved implementation period runs until 31 March 2027. The government can extend or revise schemes, but nobody can promise that, so plan as if the date holds.
If I apply before the deadline but install after, do I still get the subsidy?
That depends on the final rules for closing the scheme. Applications that are installed and commissioned within the scheme period are the safest. Aim to finish installation well before March 2027.
Is solar still worth it without the subsidy?
For most homes, yes. Payback moves from roughly 4–5 years to 6–7 years, and the panels still last 25 years.
